| Insulin Lispro, Insulin Aspart, Insulin Glulisine | administer before meals to control postprandial rise in blood glucose. Onset rapid ( 10 - 30 minutes) |
| Regular Insulin | administer 30 to 60 minute before meals to control postprandial hyperglycemia. |
| Intemediate-acting Insulin | NPH Insulin - administer for glycemic control between meals and at night |
| Long-acting Insulin | Insulin glargine, Insulin detemir administer once daily, anytime during the day but on the same time each day. |
| Metformin (Biguanides) | Reduces the production of glucose by the liver (gluconeogenesis) increased tissue sensitivity to insulin slow carbohydrate absorption in the intestines. |
