heredity the passing of genetic material from parents to offspring
gene segments of DNA found in chromosomes that give instructions for producing certain characteristics
allele the different versions of a gene
genotype the combination of alleles that you inherited from your parents
phenotype your observable traits
dominant contributes to the phenotype if one or two copies are present in the genotype
recessive contributes to the phenotype only when two copies of it are present
incomplete each allele is a heterozygous individual influences the phenotype
dominance when one trait is completely dominant over the other
codominance both of the alleles in heterozygous individual contribute to the phenotype
punnett square a graphic used to predict possible genotypes of offspring in a given cross
probability the mathematical chance of a specific outcome in relation to the total number of possible outcomes
ratio an expression that compares two quantities
pedigree traces the occurrence of a trait through generations of a family
