Unit 4
AP Biology Unit 4 Vocabulary- Silim
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Target Cell | Cell that receives the signaling molecule, has protein receptor. |
| Ligand | When a signaling molecule attaches to the receptor |
| Phosphorylation | Attachment of a phosphoryl group |
| Receptor Protein | Protein that attaches to liagand, attaches to signaling molecule |
| Secondary Messenger | Released in response to liagand, activates intercellular processes. bind effectors to response |
| Signal Amplification | Second messnger amplify signals, sending the signal out further |
| Signal Transduction | How a signal is transferred throughout a cell |
| Response | End of signal transduction pathway, result of cellular processes |
| Feedback | Mechanisms that alter the original change, ex. negative feedback |
| Negative Feedback | Reduces change, ex. body temperature |
| Positive Feedback | Amplifies Change, ex. giving birth |
| Asexual Reproduction | Gametes not involved or no change in chromosomes. Inherit genes from single parent |
| Cell Cycle | G1, S, G2, and M phase, how a cell reproduces |
| Interphase | Only g1, S, and G2 phase. Where cells grows and has checkpoints |
| Mitosis | Process where cell divides, resulting in two daughter cells |
| Cancer | Accumulation of damaged cells, that keep multiplying. Can/ can not be dangerous |
