| reproduce | to make more of the same kind of organism as the adult |
| offspring | new organisms produced by reproduction of parent organisms |
| pollination | the transfer of pollen from one plant to another |
| metamorphosis | the change in form as an organism grows into an adult |
| complete metamorphosis | a type of insect development consisting of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult |
| incomplete metamorphosis | a type of insect development consisting of three stages: egg, nymph, and adult |
| larva | an early form that an animal takes after it hatches from an egg; often in a wormlike state |
| pupa | the stage when the insect rarely moves because it is growing into an adult |
| chrysalis | a hard case that forms around a butterfly larva |
| nymph | the stage in which an insect eats, grows, and resembles a small version of the adult |
