QuestionAnswer
Target Cell Any cell that has a specufic receptor for an antigen or antibady or hormone or drug, or is the focus of contact by a virus
Ligand A molecule that binds specifically to another molecule, usually a larger one
Phosphorylation A biochemical process that involves the addition of phasphate to an organic compound.
Receptor Protein Receotir proteins embedded in the cell membrane and are meant to recognixe and bind to specific substances
Secondary messenger Second messengers are molecules that relay signals recieved at receptors on the cell surgace and they serve to amplify
Signal amplification The amplification of signals, defined as an increase in the intensity of a signal through networks of intracellular reaction.
Response In cellular communication, the change in a specifica cellular activity brough about by a transduced signal from outside
Feedback A method of metabolic control n which the end product slows the process
Positive Feedback A form of regulation in which an end product of a process speed s up that process
Asexual Reproduction The generation of offspring from a single parent that occures without the fusion of gametes.
Cell cycle Cell cycle: A cyclically operation set of molecules in the eukaryotic cell that both triggers and coordinates with key events
Interphase The period in the cell cycle whn the cell is not dividing, during interphase, cellular metabolic activity is high
Mitosis A process of nuclear division in eukaryotic cells coventionally divided into five stages
Cancer An abnormal groeth of cells which tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled wat, and in some cases metastsized
Cyclin A cellular protein that occurs in a cyclically fluctuating concentration and that plats an important role in regulating
