recessive The weaker version of a gene - less likely to occur
punnett square a square that shows how likely it is to get a particular gene
Gregor Mendel scientist that proved traits were passed down to their children
mutation Genes that have changed. Can be good or bad & can be passed from both parents.
phenotype all the genes that make up a person - the description of a trait
genotype The letters that stand for our genes.
sex chromosomes for girls girls have 2X's - one comes from her mother and one comes from her father
sex chromosomes for boys boys have one X from Mom and one Y from Dad
replicate to copy chromosomes
dominant gene the stronger version of a gene - more likely to occur
genes carry information about who you are and how you look
chromosomes tiny spaghetti like structures found inside cells
where chromosomes come from 16 chromosomes come from Mom and 16 from Dad
DNA makes up our chromosomes and is spiral shaped
sex chromosome single chromosomes that determine if someone is a boy or girl
capital/upper case letter the letter that represents the dominant gene
lower case letter the letter that represents the recessive gene
