| Capillary Action | the combined force of attraction among water molecules of surrounding materials. |
| Colloid | a mixture with small undissolved particles that do not settle out. |
| Condensation | the process by which a gas, such as water vapor, turns into liquid, such as water. |
| Evaporation | the process by which molecules at the surface of a liquid, such as water, absorb enough energy to change to a gaseous state, such as water vapor. |
| Hydroelectric Power | electricity produced by the kinetic energy of water moving over a waterfall or dam. |
| Polar Molecule | a molecule that has electrically charged areas. |
| Solute | the part of a solution that is present in a lesser amount and dissolved by the solvent. |
| Solution | a mixture in which one substance is dissolved into another substance. |
| Solvent | the part of a solution that is present in the largest amount and dissolves the solute. |
| Specific Heat | the amount of thermal energy required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of a substance by 1* celsius. |
| Surface Tension | the tightness across the surface of water caused by the polar water molecules pulling on each other. |
| Suspension | a mixture in which particles can be seen and easily separated by settling or filtration. |
