Biology chapter 4

this is the biology chapeter 4 information for 9th grade biology

QuestionAnswer
what is the cell cycle? the process in which the cells reproduce by growing, and dividing.
what is interphase? the first stage of the cell cycle during which the cells grow, carry out normal cell functions, and replicate/copys its DNA. interphase is divided into four substages called G1 (Gap1), S (Synthesis), and G2 (Gap2).
what is mitosis? the second stage of the cell cycle during which the cells nucleus and nuclear material divide. mitosis is divided into 4 stages called Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and telophase.
what is prophase? the first stage of mitosis, during which the cell's chromatin condences into chromosomes.
what is metaphase? the second stage of mitosis, during which motor protiends pull sister chromatids along the spindle apparatus to the cell's equator.
what is anaphase? the third stage of mitosis, during which the chromatids begin to be pulled apart.
what is telophase? the third and final stage of mitosis, during which the chromosomes arive at the poles of the cell and begin to relax, or decondense. then two new nuclear membranes form and the nucleoli reappears. at the end of this stage the cytoplasm is still connected.
