Ocean Topography
| Term | Definition |

| Ocean Topography | The high and low points of the ocean floor along with its features. |
| Continental Shelf | A gently sloping shallow area that extends outward from the edge of the continent. |
| Continental Slope | A steep slope that marks the true end of the continent crust. |
| Abyssal Plain | A smooth, nearly flat area covered with thick layer of sand and sediments. |
| Seamount | Under water volcanic mountains. |
| Volcanic Island | A seamount that has broken the surface of the water. |
| Ocean Trench | A deep ocean valley usually created by the subduction of oceanic crust. |
| Mid-ocean Ridge | Long, underwater mountain chain |
| Continental Rise | A gently sloping area between the continental slope and the ocean basin. |
| Continental Margin | The area made up of the continental shelf, slope and rise |
