atmosphere a thin blanket of gases to surround the earth

air pressure the weight of the air
altitude the measurement of the distance above sea level
barometer an instrument used to measure air pressure
ozone upper part of the stratosphere - a form of oxygen
weather the condition of the atmosphere at any moment in time
troposphere the layer of the atmosphere that is closest to the earth
mesosphere where meteors/shooting stars are found
thermosphere weather and communication satellites are found here
exosphere the layer of the atmosphere farthest from the earth. This layer gradually fades into space
wind moving air
air mass a large body of air that has about the same temperature and moisture
front when two unlike air masses meet, the boundary between the masses
cold front cool air mass pushes itself under a weaker warm air mass
warm front when a warm air mass moves over a slower cool air mass
stationary front air mass pushes against each other but do not move
global winds occur in large, circular belts around the earth
local winds influenced by temperature changes in a small area or place
