adhesion The action or process of adhering to a surface
cohesion The act or state or process of thiking together
Hydrogen bond A weak bond between two molecules
Polar A molecule is a chemical species in which the distribution of electrons between the covalently bonded atom is not even.
Surface Tension Film of a liquid caused bu the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid
Atom An atom is the smallest unit of matter that retains all of the properties of an element
Essential elements A chemical nutrient that is vital for the success growth and development of an organism
Macromolecules A molecule containing a very large number of atoms such as protein nucleic acid,or synthetic polymer.
Cleavage The division of cells in the early embryo
Dehydration Synthesis Conversion that involves the loss of water from the reacting molecule or ion
Monomer A building block for larger molecules
Amino acid Small molecules that are the building blocks for proteins
Amino Terminus The start of a protein or polypeptide referring to the free amine group located at the end of a polypeptide
Carbohydrates Any large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugar starch etc
Carboxyl Terminus The C terminus is the end of an amino acid chain, Terminated by a free carboxyl group.
Deoxyribose A sugar derivered from ribose by replacing a hydroxyl group with hydrogen
Hydrophilic Having a tendency to mix with dissolve in or be wetted by water
Hydrophobic Tending to repel or fail to mix with water
Lipid Any class of organic compounds that are fatty acids or their derivatives and are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvent
Nitrogenous Base A molecule that contains nitrogen and has the chemical properties of a base
Nitrogenous Acid Found in DNA

Saturated fats Type of fat in which the fatty acid chains have all predominantly single bonds
Unsaturated fats Acid molecules with at least one double bonds
Alpha Helice Arrangement of many proteins consisting of a single chain of amino acids
Antiparallel - DNA Double Helix
Beta Sheet Motif of regular secondary structure in proteins
Covalent Bond Chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms

Peptide A compound consisting of two or more amino acids linked in a chain.
polypeptide A linear organic polymer consisting of a large number of amino acid residues bonded together in a chain
Primary Structure Linear sequence of amino acids in a peptide or protein
Secondary Structure Structure in a three dimensional form of local segments of proteins
Subunit A single protein molecule that assembles with other protein complex
Synthesis The production of an organic compound in a living thing especially as aided by enzymes
Tertiary Structure Single polypeptide chain backbone with one or more protein secondary structures.
Sugar Phosphate Store energy or transfer energy
Water A molecule that is polar with one oxygen atom and two hydrogen molecules
Basic Chem Arrhenius bases Bronsted bases and lewis bases
Organic Chem The chemistry of carbon compounds
Nucleic Acid A complex organic substance present in living cells, specially DNA and RNA.
