How does light travel? in straight lines
Magnetic Metals - steel, iron, nickel, cobalt
Non-magnetic Metals- aluminum, copper, zinc, gold, silver
Less Dense means- floats in water
More Dense means - sinks in water
Soluble means - dissolves in water
Insoluble means - will NOT dissolve in water
Things that are INSOLUBLE - oil, metals, sand, rubber
Things that are SOLUBLE - sugar, syrup, salt, cotton candy

Thermal energy is - energy from heat
How is oil formed? ancient ocean organisms + heat and pressure + millions of years
How is natural gas formed? ancient ocean organisms + EXTREME heat and pressure + millions of years
How is coal formed? Ancient PLANT organisms + heat and pressure + millions of years
Oil and natural gas deposits tell us what about an area? it was once covered by oceans

What do fossil fuels and sedimentary rocks have in common? they both require heat, pressure and time to form

Canyons are formed by - moving water (river) erosion
Deltas are formed by - water (river) deposition

How can weathering and erosion affect mountain peaks? can cause the peaks to become rounded over time
What is weathering? breaking down of rock
What is deposition? dropping of sediment
What is erosion? movement of sediment
A variable is - anything that can change or is changed
How many variables can you change in an experiment? one
Sedimentary rock is - made up of layers of sediments and fossilized organisms
What processes are needed for sedimentary rock formation? Deposition, Compaction, Cementation
Compaction is - the pressing together of layers of sediment
When looking at layers of rock, which layer is oldest? the bottom layer
When looking at layers of rock, which layer is youngest? the top layer OR the magma intrusion if present
A fish fossil tells us what about an area? the area was once underwater
A leaf fossil tells us what about an area? the area was once a forest
Soil that is MOST absorbent - drains the LEAST amount of water
Soil that is LEAST absorbent - drains the MOST amount of water
How should a battery be connected to a circuit? with BOTH the positive and negative sides included
How should a light bulb be connected to a circuit? with BOTH sides included in a closed path to the battery
