Nonrenewable Energy Resources

| nuclear energy | the energy released when the nuclei of atoms are split or combined |
| petroleum or crude oil | is a liquid mixture of complex hydrocarbon compounds |
| natural gas | a mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons |
| coal | a solid fossil fuel used to generate electricity |
| permeable rock | a rock with pores, or small holes |
| nuclear fission | when the nuclei of radioactive atoms are split into two or more fragments |
