Bio quiz-Excretory

Excretory system

Term or Question Anser or Definition
Excretion The process where extra fluids that cellular waste caused are removed.
Organs of Excretion Lungs, Liver, Skin, Urinary System
Metabolic Wastes Products Nitrogen compounds, and Mineral salts
Egestion The elimination of undigested food, NOT metabolic waste
The process of Excretion in the Liver Removes harmful substances from your blood , Changes these substances to less harmful forms, goes back into your blood
What diffuses into the blood and where does it go during Excretion in the liver? Urea diffuses into the blood and is brought to the kidneys
Epidermis Outer layer that protects the dermis
Dermis Inner layer that is made up of elastic connective tissue
What does the dermis contain of? Contains sebaceous glands, sweat glands, blood vessels, hair follicles
What is removed during Excretion in the skin? Removes excess heat by evaporation of sweat and opening of blood vessels
Facts about Skin Excretion Protects the body and it is waterproof
What is sweat made up of? Sweat contains water, small amount of urea, and salts
What does shivering do? Shivering and muscle tension produces heat
Excretion in the lungs let out... CO2 and H2O
The Urinary System is made up of.... Kidneys- to produce urine Ureter- tube which takes urine to Urinary bladder- stores urine Urethra- tube through which urine is excreted to the environment
Nephrons & Urine Formation are how many steps long? 2
First stage - filtration stage wastes AND useful substances are filtered out of the blood
Second stage - Reabsorption stage useful substances are reabsorbed by blood using ATP
Excretion in Protists is when Wastes diffuse out of the cell into water
What are the waste products? CO2, mineral salts, ammonia (NH3) are the waste products
Is NH3 is soluble in water? YES
Which waste product needs active transport? Water is also a waste product and the removal of water requires active transport
What collects in the vacuole? Water collects in the contractile vacuole and is periodically expelled
Earthworm Excretion Cellular wastes diffuse into the body fluid which enters the nephridia, Then Cilia moves fluid through a tubule which ends in a bladder
What organ is needed for Earthworm Excretion? Nephridia
How many pairs of Nephridia are each body segment? There are 1 pair of nephridia in each body segment
What is urine made up of? water, mineral salts, NH3, and urea (made from NH3 and CO2)
Excretion in the Grasshoppers is when Wastes in the blood enter tubules through diffusion and active transport
Where do the wastes go? To the intestines
Uric acid dry nitrogenous waste product which is excreted through the anus and is not soluble in water
Does it conserve or release water in the Grasshopper? Conserves water
