ecosystems All living and nonliving things in an area
Biotic Factors Living Parts of an ecosystem. (Example): Fish in a Coral Reef
Abiotic Factors Nonliving things you find in an ecosystem. (Example): A rock creating shelter for a beetle.
Organism A single form of life ; the simplest form of organization in ecology.
Population All members of one kind of organism that live in a particular area.
Communities A group of different populations of organisms.
Niche The specific role an organism plays in the ecosystems.
Food chain The flow of energy from one organism to the next.
Food Web Show the interactions of many different food chains in a single ecosystem.
Producer An organism who can create its own food through the process of photosynthesis.
Consumer An organism that feeds on other organisms or organic matter because it can't make its own food.
Decomposer Organisms that break down dead plants and animals into nutrients for soil.
Scavenger An animal that feeds off of dead or decaying matter.
