Structural Drafting
| Term | Definition |

| compressive strength | measure of an object ability to withstand force or pressure |
| dead load | weight of the building or structure |
| fabrications shop | a shop in which materials such as steel are cut to specific lengths and processed |
| finite element analysis | a process in which computer programs re used to assign materials to a computer model and structural member and then to be tested under various loads |
| gage lines | lies along which rivet are placed |
| live load | any weight a building must bear that is not part of the weight of the building itself such as snow or furniture |
| load | the weights or pressure borne by the structure |
| laminating | cutting materials into thin slabs and then gluing them together |
| pitch | the distance from one point on a thread from to the corresponding point on the next form |
| prestressed concrete | concrete in which the reinforcing bars are stretched before the concrete is poured over them |
| reinforced concrete | concrete in which steel bars have been embedded |
| truss | structural element that adds strength to a structure |
