Neurologic System Function, Assessment
| Term | Definition |

| Anisocoria | pupils are unequal in size |
| Aphasia | absence of speech |
| Contractures | permanent muscle contractions with fibrosis of connective tissue that occur from lack of use of a muscle or muscle group. |
| Decerebrate | extension, posturing, both the arms and legs are extended, and the arms are internally rotated. |
| Decorticate | flexion, posturing, the patient's arms are flexed at the elbow, the hands are raised toward the chest and the legs are extended. |
| Dysarthria | difficulty speaking |
| Dysphagia | difficulty swallowing |
| Electroencephalogram (EEG) | test that involve electrodes being placed on the scalp to record brain activity. |
| Myelogram | an x-ray of the spinal canal and its contents after injection of contrast material |
| Nystagmus | involuntary movement of the eyes |
| Paresis | weakness or partial paralysis |
| Paresthesia | abnormal sensation such as burning or tingling |
| Subarachnoid | middle layer of the meninges |
