PICIC pain indicator for communicatively impaired children
non-pharmalogical interventions reposition, sweet-ease, sucking, skin-to-skin, holding, distraction
3+ months with MILD pain non-opioid NSAID
3+ months with MODERATE/SEVERE pain morphine
PCA pump - basal rate continuous rate
PCA pump - bolus rate in addition to
PCA pump MORPHINE = gold standard
infant hospitalization UNAWARE of illness - stranger/separation anxiety
toddler hospitalization illness is PUNISHMENT
school age hospitalizaiton knows cause & effect of illness
