Earthquake vocab
A study stack about earthquakes.
| Term | Definition |

| Ring of Fire | An area bordering the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanoes occur. |
| Plate Tectonics | Slow moving plates that bump into each other, slide past each other, or pull apart from each other. |
| Richter Scale | Measures the strength or magnitude of an earthquake from 1-10. |
| Epicenter | The point on the earth’s surface directly above the focus. |
| Primary Waves | The first wave. Can move through solid and liquid layers of the earth. Considered a body wave. Not as strong. |
| Secondary Waves | The second wave and the stronger wave. Slower and can move through solid layers. |
| Tsunami | A powerful series of waves created by underwater earthquakes. |
| Focus | The place that the earthquake originates. Normally underground. |
