Earth's Spheres

Interactions of Spheres, Layers of Atmosphere

TermDefinition
Biosphere Includes all living things on Earth; plants, animals, etc.
Geosphere Earth's surface, crust and all of the rocks and land.
Hydrosphere All of the water on Earth.
Cryosphere The frozen part of the hydrosphere.
Atmosphere The thin layer of gases that surround Earth.
Troposphere The layer of the atmosphere that is closest to Earth's surface. Where all life is found; where weather happens.
Stratosphere The layer of the atmosphere where Ozone is found; where large commercial planes fly.
Mesosphere The layer of the atmosphere that protects us from meteors by burning them up.
Thermosphere The hottest layer of the atmosphere that protects us by absorbing the harmful gamma and x-rays from the Sun. This is also where we find Space Shuttles.
Exosphere The outermost layer of the atmosphere, has no matter and fades into space. This is where our satellites are found.
