How are plants classified?
| Term | Definition |

| vascular plant | a plant with long tubes inside that carry food and water to all the parts of the plant and strengthens and supports the plant Example: celery stalks |
| mosses | -do not have tubes, live in moist places and grown near the ground, reproduce by forming tiny cells called spores that grow into new plants |
| ferns | -do not have flowers or seed -reproduce by forming spores -are vascular plants with tubes to carry water and nutrients long distances through the plants |
| conifers | -don't lose leaves in winter, called "evergreens" -leaves are long, narrow needles -vascular plants -produce seeds in cones |
| seed cones | used for reproducing, pollen carried by wind lands and creates a tube.growing to an egg cell, which joins with the sperm cell and a new seed develops. If the cone falls, a new plant could grow |
| flowering plants | -most of the plants you see everyday -vascular plants -many different sizes and types Examples: elm trees, oak trees |
| flowers | reproductive part of the plant, fruit and seeds develop from flowers Examples: Peaches in a peach tree |
| monocots | one seed leaf Examples: grasses, lilies, corn, wheat |
| dicots | has two seed leaves Examples: most trees, roses, tomatoes and dandelions |
