| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| force | a push or a pull |
| all forces | have a size and direction |
| net force | the combination of all the forces acting on an object |
| when the forces are in the same direction | add the forces |
| when forces are in opposing directions | subtract the smaller force from the larger one |
| the net force will be in the direction of | the larger force |
| inertia | the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object |
| acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes |
| Newton’s First Law of Motion states: | An object at rest tends to stay at rest. |
| Newton’s Second Law of Motion states: | The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object. |
| Newton’s Third Law of Motion states: | For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. |
| force equals | mass times acceleration: F=MA |
