author's purpose an author's primary reason for writing a text, most often either to inform, persuade, or entertain

word choice the writer's selection of particular words to convey tone, meaning, and theme
antonym a word that has the opposite meaning of another word
connotation the meaning a word suggests beyond its literal meaning
