| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| model | can be a visual or mathematical representation of an object, system, or concept |
| simulation | imitates the function, behavior, or process of the thing it represents |
| graphs | visual displays of data |
| trend on a graph | the direction the information goes |
| information on a graph goes up | means the trend increases |
| information on a graph goes down | means the trend decreases |
| limitation | how a model is not like the real thing. Examples: size is different, made of different materials, wrong color |
| physical models | models you can touch. Examples: a toy cars, models of buildings, maps, and globes |
| conceptual models | representations of how parts are related or organized. Example: a diagram, picture of the water cycle, and a picture of the rock cycle. |
| mathematical model | made up of mathematical equations and data. Examples: a model to predict the weather, mathematical equations, and chemical equations |
