What happens to rocks during chemical weathering? The bonds that hold rocks together break down
How do glaciers effect land when they melt? Ocean levels rise causing changes in waves and coastlines
What are the steps to sedimentary rock formation? Weathering, erosion, deposition, compaction and cementation
What happens to rocks during physical weathering? Rocks are worn away and cracked through physical action
Dunes do not only form in the desert, where else can dunes be found? Along the coast of sandy beaches
How does sediment from the mountains get transferred into Florida? Streams and rivers transport mountain sediment to Florida
Good investigations must be... replicable by other scientists
Igneous rock can break down to form what? Sediments and eventually new sedimentary rocks can form
When river water slows as it enters the ocean it can cause... deposition and the formation of a delta ▲
What are the pros and cons to farming on a floodplain? Pros- fertile soil, river provides water & lots of space Cons- Flooding and/or erosion can occur
What is deforestation? Removal of trees in a forested area, usually for agriculture or city expansion
What is urbanization? Gradual change of a rural area becoming more populated with people-more people=more building
What is desertification? When fertile land becomes desert like, usually due to deforestation, bad agriculture practices and/or drought
What are some natural sources of air pollution? Methane gas from cow manure, forest fires
What are some man-made sources of air pollution? Car exhaust, fertilizer dust, smoke from burning fossil fuels
How can overgrazing lead to desertification? When an area has overgrazing, the roots that help keep the plants and soil in place become weakened and soil is eroded leading to a dry and nutrient deprived land
