What is a cell? The most basic unit of life.
What is the function of the mitochondria? Generates the energy for the cell.
What are 5 characteristics of living things? Made of cells, use energy, grow/adapt, reproduce, have DNA
How do we observe something? Using our five senses.
What are our five senses? Sight, Smell, Touch. Taste, Hearing
What is the name of the cell that sends electrical impulses (signals) to the brain? Neuron
What is the definition of stimulus/stimuli? A thing or event that evokes a specific functional reaction in an organ or tissue.
What is the name of the sensory receptor that senses force/movement/pressure? Mechanical Receptor
What is the name of the sensory receptor that senses changes in chemicals. Chemoreceptor
What is the name of the sensory receptors in the back of the eye? Photoreceptors
How would you describe an object's/organism's structure? It's shape, size, what it's made out of, etc..
How would you describe an object's/organism's function? It's job, how it performs, it's duty, etc..
What is a hypothesis? A statement of what you believe to be true/an educated guess.
What are the organelles and cell structures plant cells have that animal cells do not have? Chloroplasts, cell wall, large central vacuole.
What are some organs that are part of the digestive system? Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, anus
What is the name of the sensory receptor that senses changes in temperature? Thermoreceptor
Which part of the nervous system do the brain and spinal cord belong to? Central Nervous
Where is the cell membrane located on a cell? On the outside, surrounding the cell, acts as a barrier.
What is the function of the nucleus in a cell? Stores the DNA,
What is the function of chloroplasts? Conduct photosynthesis, contains chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for capturing energy from the sun
Are viruses made out of cells? NO, they invade cells and use them as hosts.
