What is a conductor? an object that ALLOWS heat and electricity to pass through
Examples of conductors iron, steel, gold, aluminum, ALL METALS are conductors
What is an insulator? an object that STOPS heat and electricity from passing through
Examples of insulators styrofoam, wood, paper, cloth, rubber, plastic
reflection is - the BOUNCING of light when it hits a smooth, shiny surface
refraction is - the BENDING of light when it travels through a new medium like glass or water
objects that reflect - mirror, smooth metals, tinted glass, dark TV screen
objects that refract - water, lenses, prisms, microscope, telescope, magnifying glass, hand lens
How does light travel? in straight lines, even after being reflected or refracted
renewable resource - a natural resource that can be replaced in a human lifetime (100 years or less)
non-renewable resource - a natural resource that takes millions of years to form or replace
what property of light causes object to appear broken or larger in water? refraction
soluble means - CAN dissolve in water
insoluble means - CANNOT dissolve in water
less dense means - will float in water
more dense means - will sink in water
Which planet is closest to the sun? Mercury
Which planet is 4th from the sun? Mars
Which planet is 7th from the sun? Uranus
Deltas are formed by - water (river) deposition
Sand dunes are formed by - wind erosion & deposition
Valleys are formed by - glacier (ice) erosion
Canyons are formed by - water (river) erosion
metals that are magnetic - Steel, iron, nickel, cobalt SINC
metals that are NOT magnetic - aluminum, copper, gold, silver
relative density is - whether an object will sink or float in water
Which soils allow the most water to pass through? gravel or sandy soil
Which soils are most absorbent (hold the most water) humus
What force holds the planets in their orbits? gravity from the sun
Processes cause by the sun evaporation, wind formation, photosynthesis
Processes NOT caused by the sun volcano eruption, earthquakes, weathering and erosion
Weathering - rocks are BROKEN down into sediment
Erosion - sediment is MOVED from one place to another
Deposition - sediment is DROPPED in a new location
