Structure and Function Vocabulary

Organism A living thing; any plant or animal
Structure Physical appearance of an organism; "What it is"
Function The purpose of the structures; "What it does"
System Set of connected things or parts that form a whole
Adaptation Things that enable an organism to survive; helps it become better suited for its environment
Structural Adaptations Physical feature that helps organism survive (the bill on a bird; fur on a bear)
Behavioral Adaptations What an organism does to help it survive (migration, hibernation, bird calls)
