Objectives magnification on the microscope that makes the image larger (4x , 10x, 40x)
Magnification how large an image appears (calculation by multiplying all objectives)
Eye Piece used to view the specimen, has a 10x magnification
Low Power shows LESS detail but more sample, is larger and brighter
High Power shows MORE detail but less sample, is smaller and duller
Diaphragm controls the amount of light on the microscope
Course Adjustment moves the stage, should not move in high power due to cracking slides
Fine Adjustment makes the image have more clarity
Cell Theory all living things are made of cells, all cells have structure and function, all cells come from pre-existing cells
Objects on the microscope look upside down and backwards
1mm 1,000 um
Nucleus stores genetic information, makes ribosomes, gives the information needed to make proteins
Cytoplasm jelly like substance that helps molecules move around the cell
Vacuole storage of the cell, one large cell in plants, many small cells in animals
Lysosome breaks down materials and waste
Centrioles used in cell division, only found in animals
Ribosome protein synthesis
Endoplasmic Reticulum series of tubes surrounding the nucleus that make proteins and lipids
Golgi Apparatus packages and ships material made by the ER
Chloroplasts found only in plants, site of photosynthesis, make sugar using the energy from the sun
