TermDefinition
Wave a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another: can be single cycle or it can be repeating pattern.
Mechanical Wave a wave requires a medium through which to travel.
Transverse Wave a wave in which the particles of the medium move perpendicularly to the direction of wave is traveling.
Longitudinal Wave a wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of wave motion
Crest highest point of a transverse wave.
Trough the lowest point on a transverse wave.
Wave speed the speed at which a wave travels
Frequency the number of cycles, such as waves, in a given amount of time or the number of waves produced in a given amount of time
Medium a physical environment in which phenomena occur; for waves, the material though which a wave can travel.
Wavelength the distance from any point on a wave to the corresponding point on the adjacent wave
