Auxiliary Views and Revolutions

| auxiliary plane | An imaginary plane adjacent to a surface that appears foreshortened in the normal views. |
| auxiliary section | The section that results when the cutting plane is passed through an object at an angle. |
| auxiliary view | A projection on an auxiliary plane that is parallel to an inclined surface. |
| axis of revolution | An imaginary line or axis through an object about which the object can be revolved. |
| edge view | A view in which a cutting plane appears as an edge, or line. |
| oblique plane | A plane that is inclined to all three of the normal or reference planes. |
| partial auxiliary view | An auxiliary view in which some elements have been left out. |
| primary auxiliary view | An auxiliary view that is developed directly from one of the normal views. |
| reference plane | Planes that are parallel to inclined surfaces and are used for creating auxiliary views. |
| revolution | Another name for a revolved view. |
| secondary auxiliary view | An auxiliary view that is developed from a primary auxiliary view. |
| successive revolutions | The process of revolving an object first around an axis perpendicular to one plane, and then again about an axis perpendicular to another plane. |
