Eclipse/Seasons/Tide

Eclipse, Season, and Tides vocabulary

TermDefinition
Eclipse The partial or total block of one object in space by another.
Lunar Eclipse An eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the Earth's shadow.
Solar Eclipse Occurs when the moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth and cast a shadow over part of the Earth.
Rotation The spinning of Earth on its axis( an imaginary line about which an object rotates)
Axis an imaginary line about which an object rotates
Revolution The movement of an object around another object
Weather The condition of the Earth's atmosphere at a particular place and time. (short term)
Climate overall weather in a certain area over a long period of time
Latitude The numbering system used to indicate the location of parallels drawn on a globe and measures distance north and south of the equator.
Seasons The Earth has season because its axis is tilted as it revolves around the sun.
Tide The periodic rise and fall of the waters of the oceans and its inlets, produced by the attraction of the moon and sun, and occurs about every 12 hours.
Neap Tide A less than average tide occurring at the first and third quarters of the moon
Spring Tide A tide just after a full or new moon, when there is the greatest difference between high and low water.
