| renewable resources | natural resources that nature can produce again, such as trees, plants, animals, water, oxygen, and soil |
| conservation | the practice of decreasing the use of natural resources in order to save them |
| nonrenewable resources | natural resources, such as fossil fuels, that will eventually be used up and can never replaced |
| fossil fuels | fuels formed from the decaying remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago |
| coal | a type of fossil fuel that is a solid |
| oil | a type of fossil fuel that is a liquid |
| natural gas | a type of fossil fuel that is a gas |
| environment | the space, conditions, and all the living and nonliving things around an organism |
| recycle | to properly dispose of used resources so they can be reprocessed into new products |
| reservoir | a place where water is kept |
| abundantly | more than enough |
| temporary | not lasting or needed for very long |
| alter | change |
| aquatic | having to do with water |
