TermDefinition
Crust Describes the outermost shell of a terrestrial planet
Mantle (Convection currents) The very slow creeping motion of Earth's solid silicate. Convection currents carrying heat from the interior to the planet's surface
Outer Core The third layer of the Earth. It is the only liquid layer
Inner Core A hot, dense ball of (mostly) iron
Lithosphere The rigid outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle.
Asthenosphere The upper layer of the earth's mantle, below the lithosphere
Troposphere The lowest region of the atmosphere, extending from the earth's surface
Stratosphere The layer of the earth's atmosphere above the troposphere
Mesosphere The region of the earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere
Thermosphere the region of the atmosphere above the mesosphere
Exosphere The outermost region of a planet's atmosphere
Ozone Layer A layer in the earth's stratosphere at an altitude of about 6.2 miles (10 km) containing a high concentration of ozone, which absorbs most the sun's ultraviolet radiation
Altitude The height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level
