| Crust | Describes the outermost shell of a terrestrial planet |
| Mantle (Convection currents) | The very slow creeping motion of Earth's solid silicate. Convection currents carrying heat from the interior to the planet's surface |
| Outer Core | The third layer of the Earth. It is the only liquid layer |
| Inner Core | A hot, dense ball of (mostly) iron |
| Lithosphere | The rigid outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle. |
| Asthenosphere | The upper layer of the earth's mantle, below the lithosphere |
| Troposphere | The lowest region of the atmosphere, extending from the earth's surface |
| Stratosphere | The layer of the earth's atmosphere above the troposphere |
| Mesosphere | The region of the earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere |
| Thermosphere | the region of the atmosphere above the mesosphere |
| Exosphere | The outermost region of a planet's atmosphere |
| Ozone Layer | A layer in the earth's stratosphere at an altitude of about 6.2 miles (10 km) containing a high concentration of ozone, which absorbs most the sun's ultraviolet radiation |
| Altitude | The height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level |
