| Big Bang Theory | states that the Universe was in a very high density state and then expands |
| Geocentric Theory | in the Middle Ages, the earth-centered view of the universe in which scholars believed that the earth was an immovable object located at the center of the universe |
| Heliocentric Theory | the idea that the earth and the other planets revolve around the sun |
| galaxy | A collection of stars, dust, and gas bound together by gravity |
| Milky Way Galaxy | Galaxy that contains our Solar System. The name derives from its appearance as a dim "milky" glowing band arching across the night sky, in which the naked eye cannot distinguish individual stars. |
| Gravity | A force that pulls objects toward each other |
| universe | All of space and everything in it |
| Planets | a celestial body moving in an elliptical orbit around a star. |
| meteor | A streak of light in the sky produced by the burning of a meteoroid in Earth's atmosphere. |
| Asteroids | rocky metallic objects that orbit the sun but are too small to be considered planets |
| comet | A ball of frozen dust and rock that orbits the sun and has a tail that glows |
