What does a double bar line tell you? That you have reached the end of the song.
What kind of note is an open circle with a stem? How many beats does it get ? Half note - two beats
What kind of note is an open circle with a stem and a dot beside it? How many beats does it get? Dotted half note (nickname is half note dot) - three beats
What kind of note is a solid, filled in circle with a stem? How many beats does it get Quarter note - one beat
What do we call a double bar line that has two dots with it? Repeat sign
What do we call the numbers at the beginning of a song? Time Signature
What does the top number of the time signature tell you? How many beats/counts will be in each measure
What does the bottom number of the time signature tell you? Which kind of note gets one beat/count
What does a tie tell you to do? Hold the note for the duration of the two notes that are tied.
What do you do when there is a flat symbol in front of a note? Play the key immediately to the left of the note instead of that note.
What do you do when there is a sharp symbol in front of a note? Play the key immediately to the right of the note instead of that note.
When a sharp or flat is added to a note, does it ever affect other notes? Yes - the sharp or flat change to that note lasts until the end of the measure.
Which way is "up" on a piano? right
Which way is "down" on a piano? left
What do we call the vertical lines in our music. These are the lines that happen every few beats. bar lines
What is a "measure" in music? The section of music between two bar lines.
What do we call the curved line that connects two notes that are the same note? tie
