| volcano | a mountain made from hardened lava, rocks, and ash that erupted from underneath the Earth's surface |
| earthquake | the shaking of the Earth's crust caused by large pieces of rock underneath the Earth's surface moving against each other |
| landslide | occurs when gravity pulls down some of the land on the slope of a hill |
| weathering | the process of breaking down rock into sediments, usually by the force of water, wind, or ice |
| erosion | the process of sediments being moved by water, wind, or ice |
| canyon | the high walls that are carved along a river by the river itself |
| glacier | a huge piece of ice that slowly moves across the surface of the Earth and remains frozen during the entire year |
| deposition | the process by which sediments that have been eroded are dropped in a new place |
| delta | a triangular landform at the mouth of a river formed by the deposition of sediments |
| sand dune | a hill of sand formed by the deposition of sand by the wind |
| landform | a feature on the surface of Earth such as a mountain, dune, delta, or river |
| formation | the process by which something is made or formed |

| recent | not long ago |
| slab | a large flat piece of something |
| recede | move or go back |
| petrified | to cause to become stiff or stone like |
| weathering | breaking down of rock |
