| Term | Definition |

| Ethics Committee | knowledge, preparation and practice of a team to discuss and advise a circumstance which needs clarification of issues and values related to patient care |
| Nurse Role in Ethics Committee | Often start an ethics consult because of being on the front line with patients |
| Interprofessional | Collaboration is interprofessional on an ethics committee |
| Beneficence | To promote goodness, kindness, and charity; To abstain from injuring others and to remove harm |
| Autonomy | Principle of respect for the person; primary moral principle |
| Actual Conflict of Interest | A person changes their behavior or actions to benefit them self or have a gain. |
| Potential Conflict of Interest | A person may benefit from a change in their behavior or actions. They could have a gain if there is a change. |
| Perceived Conflict of Interest | Other people think there is a benefit to someone. Someone gets benefits because of a relationship or situation. |
| Nonmaleficence | a duty not to inflict harm |
| Veracity | truth |
| Brain Death | Absence of electroencephalogram activity |
| Organ Procurement Team | Contacted when there is a potential donor and all deaths. Usually done by nurses. |
