Dimensioning

TermDefinition
aligned system the dimensions are placed in lines with dimension line
basic hole system is one in which the design size of the hole is basic size and the allowance is applied to the shift
basic shaft system is one which the design size of the hole is basic size and the allowance is applied to the hole
bilateral tolerances allow variations in both direction from a design size
datums are points, lines, and surface that are assumed to be exact
dimension line is a thin line that shows where a measurement begins and where it ends
dual dimensioning system is sometimes used in industries involved in international trade
finish mark shows that a surface is to be machined , or finished
geometric dimensioning and telorancing additions of material, shapes, and size information to an engineering drawing
tolerance the permissible limit or limits of variation
unidirectional system all dimension read from the bottom of the sheet, no matter where they appear
unilateral tolerances allow variations in only one direction from a design size
