Mass movement
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| erosion | the process of natural resources move weathered rock |
| sediment | may contain of pieces of rock or soil |
| deposition | s the geological process in which sediments, soil and rocks are added to a landform or land mass. Wind, ice, water, and gravity transport previously weathered |
| gravity | s a force of attraction that exists between any two masses, any two bodies, any two particles |
| mass movement | process by which soil, sand, regolith, and rock move downslope typically as a solid, continuous or discontinuous |
| runoff | Runoff is what occurs when rain is not absorbed by the ground on which it falls and so then flows downhill. |
| rill | Rill erosion occurs when runoff water forms small channels as it concentrates down a slope. if it is over than 10 centimeters than its referred as a gully |
| gully | trench cut into land by the erosion of an accelerated stream of water. |
| stream | A stream is a body of water with surface water flowing within the bed and banks of a channel. |
| tributary | is a freshwater stream that feeds into a larger stream or river |
| flood pain | lat land area adjacent to a stream, composed of unconsolidated sedimentary deposits |
| meander | s one of a series of regular sinuous curves, bends, loops, turns, or windings in the channel of a river, stream, or other watercourse. |
| oxbow lake | is a meander that has been cut off from the river. a oxbow lake lake may form when a river floods |
| delta | Deltas can be of various shapes . Some are arc-shaped others are triangle shapes |
| alluvial fan | is a wide sloping deposit of sediment is formed where a stream leaves a mountain range . |
| ground water | is the term geologists us for the underground water. Like running water on the on the surface. |
| stactite | slow dripping bulbs up cone shaped stalagmite from the floor |
| karst topography | after a regen in eastern europe |
