Chapter 5 Terms

Vocab terms from Chap 5

TermDefinition
Bisect divide into two parts.
Circumscribe draw (a figure) around another, touching it at points but not cutting it.
Ellipse a regular oval shape, traced by a point moving in a plane so that the sum of its distances from two other points (the foci) is constant, or resulting when a cone is cut by an oblique plane which does not intersect the base.
Geometric Construction draw shapes, angles or lines accurately. These constructions use only compass, straightedge (i.e. ruler) and a pencil.
Geometry the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs.
Inscribe draw (a figure) within another so that their boundaries touch but do not intersect.
object Snap Osnaps allow you to snap onto a specific object location when you are picking a point. For example, using Osnaps you can accurately pick the end point of a line or the center of a circle.
Parallel (of lines, planes, surfaces, or objects) side by side and having the same distance continuously between them.
Perpendicular at an angle of 90° to a given line, plane, or surface.
Polygon a plane figure with at least three straight sides and angles, and typically five or more.
Regular polygon a regular polygon is a polygon that is equiangular and equilateral.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
