Classifying Living Things

Class a category in taxonomy ranking above the order and below the phylum categories

Family a category in taxonomy ranking above the genus and below the order categories
Fungus a parasitic plant lacking chlorophyll, leaves, true stems, and roots; reproduce by spores
Genus a category in taxonomy ranking above the species and below the family categories
Kingdom the largest category of taxonomic classification, based on common characteristics and evolutionary history
Moneran an organism without a membrane-bound nucleus; also known as a prokaryote. Prokaryotes differ from eukaryotes, organisms whose cells have membrane-bound nuclei. The vast majority of prokaryotes consist of only a single cell.
Order a category in taxonomy ranking above the family and below the class categories
Phylum a category in taxonomy ranking above the class and below the kingdom category
Protist a unicellular or simple multicellular organisms
Species a category in taxonomy ranking below the genus category
