Who is responsible for coming up with the idea of Continental Drift, and why did he first come up with the theory? Alfred Wegener. He first noticed the shape of the continents seemed to fit together.
What clues provide evidence to the theory? Many, but the first was the shape of the continents
Explain how ROCKS can provide evidence for continental drift, and where in the world is this evidence? Rocks of similar age and type were found on multiple continents.
Explain how CLIMATE can provide evidence for continental drift, and where in the world is this evidence? Grooves from glacial movement are found on continents/land masses that are too warm to have ice today, suggesting that they were once somewhere else on Earth.
Explain how FOSSILS can provide evidence for continental drift, and where in the world is this evidence? What types of fossils have been found? Both plant and animal fossils can be found across multiple continents. These creatures were unable to move freely across oceans, so it suggest that the continents were once adjoined.
How quickly are the continents moving? Very slowly….only a few cm per year.
