QuestionAnswer
Atom Atoms are the basic units of matter and the defining structure of elements.
Element A substance that cannot be decomposed into smaller substances by chemical means, and is also made up of atoms.
Specific heat Specific heat is the defined as the amount of heat one gram of a substance must absorb or lose to change its temperature by one degree celsius
Saccaride a monosaccharide sugar or combination of sugars
Saturated fat a type of in which the fatty acid chains have all or predominantly single bonds
Lipids Lipids are organic compounds that are fatty acids or derivatives of fatty acids, which are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents
Peptide bonds A peptide bond is a type of chemical bond formed between two molecules when the carboxyl group of one molecule reacts with the amino group
Nucleotide A nucleotide is one of the structural components or building blocks of DNA or RNA
Amino Acid An amino acid is an organic molecule that is made up of a basic amino group
Hydrophobic Hydrophobic liquids such as oil, will sperate from water. Hydrophobic molecules are usually nonpolar, meaning the atoms that make the molecule do not produce a static electric field.
Solute A solute is a substance that can be dissolved by a solvent to create a solution.
Solvent A solvent is a molecule that has the ability to dissolve other molecules, known as solutes
Hydrogen bond A hydrogen bond is the electromagnetic attraction created between a partially positively charged hydrogen atom attached to a highly electronegative atom and another nearby electronegative atom.
Non polar bond a nonpolar covalent bonds are a type of bond that occurs when two atoms share a pair of electrons with each other
Polar bond A type of covalent bond between two atoms in which electrons are shared unequally. Because of this, one end of the molecule has a slightly negative charge and the other are slightly positive
Bond Compare coordinate bond, covalent bond, hydrogen bond iconic bond, metallic bond

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
