WordDefinition
tape measure A long, flexible strip or ribbon made of cloth or metal used to measure distance.
hand lens A magnifying glass designed to be held in the hand.
calculator An electronic or mechanical device that calculates and helps analyze data.
magnify To make an object or substance appear larger than it actually is.
safety goggles goggles or large spectacles equipped with special lenses, protective rims, etc., to prevent injury to the eyes. Protects your eyes.
balance An instrument for determining weight. Used to measure mass.
ruler Measuring stick consisting of a strip of wood or metal or plastic. Used for measuring the length of objects and distances. Used for measure flat objects.
thermometer An instrument for measuring temperature.
volume The amount of space something takes up.
graduated cylinder A container for liquid with a wider base gradually narrowing to the top. An instrument used to measure volume.
binoculars An optical device, providing good depth effect, for use with both eyes. A double telescope joined as one unit.
telescope An optical instrument for making distant objects appear larger and therefore nearer.
microscope An optical instrument having a magnifying lens or a combination of lenses for inspecting objects too small to be seen.
