Scientific Method
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Question | The process starts when you ask a question about something you observe; ask how, why, when, and where. |
| Research | Look up what is already known about your question; learn from others who may have already conducted experiments. |
| Hypothesis | An educated guess about the answer to your question; it needs to be easy to measure and not based on non-testable opinion. |
| Experiment | Using a list of procedures, this is how you test your hypothesis. |
| Collect Data | Record all of your findings. |
| Analyze | Organize your data; create graphs and charts |
| Conclusion | The point when your reach a determination about your hypothesis - was it right and wrong |
| Scientific Theory | An explanation based on extensive and repeated experimentation |
| Scientific Law | Rules that describe a pattern - example gravity - what goes up, must come down |
| Technology | Application tools or products scientists use to enhance their research/experiment |
| Qualitative | Observations about how something looks, feels, smells, sounds, or tastes |
| Quantitative | Observations that are about numbers or quantity |
| Observations | Made when you use your senses to take in information about your surroundings |
