Scientific Thinking

TermDefinition
Variable Any factor that can change in a controlled experiment, observation, or model.
Independent Variable Variable changed or manipulated by the scientist to see a result (what you are testing).
Dependent Variable Variable used to observe change; reaction is caused by the independent variable (the measurable result).
Control Variable Variable that is held constant and used for comparison.
Qualitative Data Created by using your senses to gain observations or results.
Quantitative Data Created with instruments. Results or observations are measurable (#).
