cell the smallest, most basic unit of life - contains DNA
stimulus a change that affects the activity of an organism - something that causes a response
response any reaction of a living organisms caused by a stimulus
homeostasis the ability of organisms to maintain stable internal conditions
reproduction the process of living things creating offspring similar to themselves
asexual reproduction the process of ONE PARENT passing genetic information (DNA) to an identical offspring
sexual reproduction the process of TWO PARENTS combining genetic information (DNA) to produce unique offspring
heredity the passing of traits (through genetic material - DNA) from parents to offspring
metabolism all of the processes used to take in and break down food and turn it into energy
DNA the genetic information in all cells that contain the instructions to make each individual
biotic anything alive, dead (once alive), or dormant (will be alive)
abiotic anything that has never been and never will be alive
adaptation he process by which an animal or plant species becomes better suited to its environment
develop the process (often a transformation) that occurs during an organism’s life that results in a more complex organism
grow addition of mass to an organism - the organism gets bigger in size!
energy the ability to do work
scientific argument a description of a scientific idea and the evidence for or against it.
