| Dorsal | The Back |
| Sagital Plane | Cuts the Cat into equal right and laft halves |
| Medial | Towards the Midline |
| Transverse Plane | Perpendicular to the long axis. Produces a cross section |
| Lateral | Towards the side |
| Ventral | Towards the belly |
| Anterior | Towards the head |
| Distal | Away from point of reference (distant) |
| Proximal | Close to point of reference |
| Posterior | Towards the butt |
| Xiphisternum | The most posterior sternebra |
| Atlas | The vertebrae at the base of the skull |
| Ulna | The longest forelimbs |
| Orbit | Pertaining to sight |
| Olfactory | Pertaining to smell |
| Cranium | bone that encloses the brain and facial bones |
| Digitigrade | The stance that animals use when they walk on their toes |
| Sutures | Immobile joints |
| Foramen | A tiny opening in the bone |
| Condyles | A rounded process that articulates |
| Facet | A smooth surface that articulates |
| Neural Canal | A tube formed by vertebral canals |
| Sternebrae | Segments of backbone |
| Axial Skeleton | A section of the skeleton containing the skull, mandible, vertebral column, ribs and sternum |
| False ribs | The 4 posterior ribs (do not articulate) |
