Plate Tectonics Theory States that the Earth's surface is broken into large, rigid piece that move with respect to each other.
lithosphere the crust and uppermost part of the mantle.
asthesphere the partially melted of the mantle below the lithosphere ; hotter than the lithosphere and can bend more easily.
divergent boundary a boundary where two plates move away from each other.
convergent boundary a boundary where two plates move towards each other.
convection the circulation of fluids caused by differences in density and thermal energy.
convenction currents (in the mantle) cause tectonic plates in the lithosphere to move.
suduction the process that occurs when one tectonic plate moves under another tectonic plate.
Pangea supercontinent predicted to have broken apart millions of years ago to create what we know today as large landmasses or continents.
